Today, Federato is announcing the general availability of two new offerings: Submission Triage, an AI agent to get the best deals in front of your underwriters instantly, and Orchestrate, which gives insurers the power to bring their own agentic AI ideas to life.
For the better part of the last decade, Federato has had a singular focus: to help insurers win the right deals faster. We’ve done that by championing a RiskOps approach that helps insurers achieve strategic portfolio objectives by providing underwriters with the context needed to make better decisions on each individual risk. Today’s new offerings were built in deep partnership with the underwriting community we serve and represent the next chapter in underwriting modernization.
Submission intake has historically been an intense pain for our customers and the industry at large. Overwhelmed teams continue to process thousands of submissions manually, often relying on systems so crude that they get in the way of the underwriters themselves.
Insurers told us again and again that their previous submission intake software tools were failing them. The reality is that many of today’s solutions are little more than wrappers built on publicly available large language models. Inevitably, opportunistic teams who are not dedicated to or familiar with the complexity of underwriting, leave insurers in the lurch or revert to a human-in-the-loop approach that takes 24-48 hours to return a result, often at a premium to what was previously paid to BPO.
We took a different approach. Partnering with our user community of thousands of underwriters, we observed that many of the most important data points in a submission do not exist in any singular document. Instead, underwriters apply their judgement to the whole context of a submission, including emails, SOVs, loss runs, and all the other documents related to an opportunity. Traditional systems for submission processing have been ineffective because they work on each document in a vacuum.
Submission Triage is radically different, using a series of AI agents to perform context-aware reasoning to replicate how underwriters actually work. It doesn't just ingest or score risks in a vacuum; it uses the entire submission to reason to what it needs to know in order to surface the most in-appetite, winnable deals — and gets those processed risks in front of underwriters within seconds of hitting an underwriter’s inbox.
As it turns out, real speed drives significant results. Early customers have seen 89% reductions in time to quote, 2.8x the amount of high-appetite submissions quoted, and 3.7x the amount of high-appetite business bound.
When we brought an early version of Submission Triage to a small group of beta customers, we quickly encountered a new question: if we could compose a series of dynamic AI agents to handle submission ingestion and triage, what else was possible?
This led us to develop Orchestrate; an AI composer that allows insurers to create and iterate on powerful AI workflows in minutes. IT teams can use natural language prompting to generate workflows composed of AI sub-agents; small, purpose-built AI functions to accomplish tasks like document classification, context extraction, or summarization. Simply by writing out what one wants to achieve, a user can sit back and watch as sub-agents are composed into full end-to-end flows automatically, bringing new AI ideas to life quickly, safely, and easily.
Early Orchestrate users have built workflows that automate complex, repetitive tasks like drafting notifications and emails to brokers, proactively identifying submissions that need extra attention in the context of underwriting guidelines, and summarizing all recent news about an insured organization before the underwriter needs to ask.
Crucially, Orchestrate is delivered in Federato’s proven and secure environment, which has set the standard for compliance and auditability in mission-critical P&C insurance settings. Federato's single-tenant architecture, precise logging, and algorithmic innovation allow insurers to retain full control over exactly which AI models interact with what data, and where output from a model goes.
Both Submission Triage and Orchestrate are now generally available to insurers to tackle the hardest problems faced by our industry today. We’re so proud of the story of collaboration behind these two offerings, and everything that our customers are already using them to accomplish. It’s a bright future not just for agentic AI workflows in insurance but for our industry as a whole.
